Sedative Filling Post-Op Instructions

A sedative filling is placed when there is a large cavity in the tooth. The purpose of the sedative filling is to help the tooth become less inflamed so a permanent filling or crown may be placed in 4-6 weeks.

After you go home…
Avoid chewing until the numbness wears off
Brush and floss normally. If your teeth are sensitive to hot, cold, or pressure, use desensitizing toothpaste. If sensitivity persists beyond a few days, please call Dental Care 24/7
Your gum tissue might be sore, to reduce any discomfort or swelling, rinse your mouth three times a day with warm saltwater. Use about one teaspoon of salt per glass of warm water.

It’s normal for your gums to be sore for several days. If your discomfort increases or lasts more than 4 days call us.
